Anti-Wrinkle Technology Using Pectin Oligomer from Citrus Peel

  • Study of the effects of plant-derived pectin oligomer and development of cosmetic product (the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Chungcheongbuk-do Techno Park)
  • Low-molecular-weight pectin hydrolysate preparation method and the cosmetic composition containing the same (patent no.10-1220091)

One of the biggest concerns of women seeking timeless beauty is wrinkles.

IT’S HANBUL Research Lab discovered an anti-wrinkle ingredient called hydrolyzed pectin from pectin found in the peel of Jeju citrus through research on functional cosmetic products for anti-wrinkle care in everyday life.

Pectin is the main component of plant cell walls found in a thin layer between the cell membranes of, for example, fruits and vegetables. Having the ability to form a gel in the proper of acids and sugar, pectin is commonly used to thicken watery food (increasing the viscosity) like jam, jelly and yogurt.

However, because it exhibits an unstable viscosity under certain conditions, it is not very friendly with most cosmetic ingredients, and as it similarly does not have many benefits when it is applied to the skin, it has had a limited application in the cosmetics field.

The hydrolyzed pectin developed over three years by our research lab is, however, different. It is a new ingredient formulated by selectively separating low-molecular-weight biologically-active oligosaccharides and galacturonic acid through hydrolysis of pectin using biotechnology.

It not only remedies the disadvantages of pectin, but also has excellent stability and anti-aging benefits. The effect of reducing the appearance of wrinkles was also demonstrated through a clinical trial.

Our research lab in collaboration with the Educational-Industrial Complex of Chungbuk National University brought this technology to the market after successfully completing the national technology development project entitled “The effect of plant-derived pectin oligomer and the development of cosmetic products” (the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Chungcheongbuk-do Techno Park).

It is recognized as a new anti-wrinkle functional ingredient (not notified) by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and obtained NET (New Excellent Technology) certificate and patent under the title of low-molecular-weight pectin hydrolysate preparation method and the cosmetic composition containing the same (patent no.10-1220091).

It is also demonstrated that IT’S SKIN Prestige Cell Concentrated using this technology can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles when it is applied after basic skincare products, without extra eye cream.
