Stable Nanoliposome Containing Unsaturated Lecithin

  • Delivering active ingredients deeply into the skin
  • A stable nanoliposome containing unsaturated lecithinand skin agent composition containing thereof (patent no.10-0544442)

Ingredients in functional cosmetic products must penetrate deeply into the skin through the gaps between keratinocyte in order to play their role. No matter how good an ingredient is, it is of no use unless it goes deeply into the skin.

Because the gap between skin cells is about 20-80nm, active ingredients should be nano-sized to pass through this gap. Liposome, one of the most widely used nano technologies in the cosmetics industry, came from the medical field.

Plainly put, a liposome is a spherical vesicle having at least one lipid layer. In general, it has the size of a few hundred nanometers and is capable of holding active ingredients inside.

Anti-aging and/or skin brightening ingredients encapsulated in liposomes work within the cytoplasm as the liposomes penetrate the skin through cells in the stratum corneum, go into the skin cells and release these ingredients in a bursting manner.

In general, natural emulsifier, lecithin has been used for liposome and nano emulsion production. Lecithin, extracted from egg yolk, has been most commonly used in the manufacturing of medicines and food, but recently lecithin extracted from soybeans is increasing in popularity.

Lecithin from natural sources are unsaturated, meaning that it has a number of double bonds between two carbon atoms. Because of such advantages, being skin friendly and capable of deeply delivering active ingredients into the skin without causing much skin irritation became known, many research projects have been conducted both in Korea and abroad.

After years of research, our research lab adjusted the proportion of unsaturated lecithin, solvent, additive emulsifier and pH control agent and successfully developed nano liposome, which has excellent physical and chemical stability and yet boosts the absorption of biologically active ingredients.

Phosphatidylcholine, which is unsaturated lecithin extracted from soybean, is used to stabilize nano liposome, which is smaller than commonly used liposome, so it can deliver active ingredients deeply into the skin.
